Astronaut Iris

Hi, my name is Iris Niederer. I have 2 children, 1 boy and 1 girl. The girl is called Georgia and the boy is called Adriaan. My husband is called Thomas Niederer. I am 39 years old, the children are twins(9 years old) and Thomas is 40 years old. The dog is a girl and is called Pepper, she is 2 years old.

I have a job that gives us a lot of money but we have to move from place to place a lot. I was born in North America. Then I lived in Holland and then I lived in England. Then I lived in Germany and then I lived in Holland again. Then I lived in Italy for quite sometime and then we moved to Mexico. Now we live in Holland, again.

The children go to an international school in Hilversum. My husband has his own shop, a pet shop. I have a job at the space centre, well actually I train there until it is finished and then after it is finished I can go tospace.

Mission Briefing

My mission is to go to the I.S.S. (the International Space Station also known as Freedom) and send the Mars rover to Mars. When the mars rover is on Mars, we are going to look for life.

When I woke up, I was really excited. It was the end of my space training and I would get my mission. I was so excited I nearly skipped breakfast. Luckily, my family reminded me because they of course wanted there breakfast.

When I arrived at the space centre, my boss was already waiting for me. I basically jumped out of my car and ran to my boss. My boss lead me inside where I would hear my mission. When I heard that I would be in the I.S.S., controlling the Mars rover, I was really, and I mean really excited!!

The Day Of Launching

I am getting ready to go in the space shuttle and all of the other people are also getting ready.I have a million butterflies in my stomach and these suits are really warm. I just put on the suit and I am already sweating like a pig.

I am in the space shuttle now. I just heard that I am flying the space shuttle. I am not that worried anymore because I am just doing what I did in my training.

I hear the count down already. 9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1... BLAST OFF!!! oops, got to go!

My Life in Space

We safely arrived yesterday and we had fun in the space shuttle. We made loads of jokes and we let marbles float (the marbles were magnetic so it looked just like a snake) around the space shuttle.

We are going have lunch now. This is a nice big lunch, not the ones we had in the space shuttle. I am as hungry as a pig.

After lunch, I did some research of how to control a mars rover. It was tiresome because I did not get to sleep a lot last night. Tomorrow we are going to send the Mars Rover to Mars, I need to go to dinner now. Tomorrow I will write about the Mars Rover and how we send it to Mars.

My Life in Space

Today we are going to send the Mars rover to Mars. I am really excited because I am going to be the one steering the Mars rover. Can you believe it, ME steering the Mars rover!! I still can not believe it and it has been quite sometime since I heard the news!

My team and I are already in the room waiting till some other people come in. Everyone is counting on me and that gives me a lot of pressure. I tell them to stop talking that helped but not quite because then they started to whisper. They are still doing it and it is IRRITATING!!

Everyone is here now and we can get started. We are sending the Mars rover to Mars now and me hands are trembling like mad! The Mars rover landed on Mars and I am moving it. It is cool controlling the Mars rover. got to concentrate now, so bye bye.

Back to Earth

I have to go back to Earth today. I liked it here in space but there has to be a time where you have to go back to Earth. I will miss space, but there is good news. I have another mission coming up, but the bad news, the mission is in about 1, 2 or more years!!

I am riding back to Earth now. We are almost in the atmosphere. Someone has taken my place for steering the space shuttle because I am now scared that if I am the one steering the space shuttle we will be burnt by the atmosphere.

We are back on Earth now and I am glad to see my family again, and of course my dog. my family and I are going to go to an amusement park
